Building a Daily Journal Page
Daily journaling. It is what I am trying this year as part of a challenge in Creative Crafty Friends. Several people have asked about my pages, what I am using, how the elements come together, so I thought today I would walk you through the building of this particular page.
As happens most times, I started with a monoprint. A gelli print made with my Gelli Arts gel printing plate. Fabulous fun! I also used a texture plate I purchased from Joggles. I had an idea where I wanted to go with this journal page and these colors were perfect. I keep a stack of prints I can choose from. And this one said me! me! take me! So I did. The print was made on Hand Lettering paper from Hahnemühle. Not the original intent for that paper, but it sure works great for gelli pulls.
Here is a little supply photo. Hahahaha! That stencil came from Joggles also. Barb has a section of ATC stencils on the website. I use black Archival Ink and a finger dabber. That would be that little round dark thing in the middle of the photo.
Stencils are great for adding texture to a page. I adhered the full print with scor tape. Sometimes I use smaller bits of the print but for this page I wanted the whole 5" x 7" sheet.
The reason for the stenciled stars? This little text block right here. I purchased a sheet years ago with sayings like this and I could still find this particular one. Perfect for the image I wanted to use also. And I used that same black ink on the edges and for some scuff marks.
I had been saving this image for awhile now - a digital image from Pinterest. I love Tinkerbell and I am always looking for pictures of her. Not sure this was meant to be Tink, but I colored her that way anyway with my Copic markers. This was after she had been through the sticker machine and I was trimming her out.
I am combining my daily journaling with The 100 Day Project. Hence, the tangled tile which I cut from Bristol Illustration paper from Hahnemühle. The colors on the tile are from Ecoline Brush Pens and they were perfect for this page. With all my elements in place I was ready to complete it with some pen work.
If you don't already have these pens, you need to get them. Zig Clean Color Dot Markers. The tip is a rounded sponge and you just touch it down to the paper and it makes these cool dots. Small touch = small dot. Big smoosh = big dots. That's my kind of math!
And finish it up with some connecting lines and some journaling. No one can even tell I printed that texture plate sideways with the butterfly flying off the paper. Hahahahahaha! And just like that two challenges are completed for the day. Daily journaling AND the 100 Day Project. Boom! And you are welcome <3

Your Tinkerbell is a perfect balance for the tangles at the bottom right!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites so far
DeleteOh my gosh ~ that monoprint with which you began is stunningly beautiful, Alice!!! I have such a hard time covering up beauty like that. I must say, however, that your completed journal page was worth it. :) And your adorable "Tink" is just so ... well ... adorable!! lol ...
ReplyDeleteI have a drawer full of prints that I don’t want to use. So I know what you mean. This one was the perfect colors to go with my Tink.
DeleteLove your positioning of Tink - just looking at that moon rather intently. The stencilled stars echo the black filled in triangles of your tangling too & the tangled tile is a perfect match in colour with that gelli print background. I do like the way you're diving the pages with those dots - interesting that you do them after you've finished the layout itself.
ReplyDeletemainly I just look at getting the elements on the page then work those dots last. I hope this set of pens lasts for the whole 100 Day Project
