My Journey







Welcome to my little spot in the webiverse. The little space where I share my artistic journey, my color experiments and processes, my tangle successes and almost-successes, and in general just share my life. 

This is me. Living in beautiful Maine with my husband Mark, our animals Belle, Rocky and Aurora, and our herd of dragons. Yep! Dragons! I have ten that live outdoors half the year. (Two of them are almost 7 feet tall.) In the winter we bring the babies inside so the snow and ice don’t destroy them during those 6 – 7 months. Maine can get brutal. But so much better than the hurricanes and fires we had to endure in Florida. 

We have a bunch of children and grandchildren. One daughter who lives in Colorado recently got married, one in Florida and a son, his wife (my 3rd daughter) and little Frankles live close to us here in Maine. There are seven grandkids. We have been so blessed. 

I began my art journey a little over six years ago. Retired from law enforcement, I went straight into homeschooling our youngest daughter for twelve years. When all the kids were gone from home I needed something new to keep me busy. Pinterest to the rescue! Hahaha! Not even kidding. I found art on Pinterest. It wasn’t long until I was in training to become a Zentangle® teacher. And it wasn’t much longer before I found my true calling in color. Bright, crazy-makes-no-sense kind of color just screams my name. And I love it!

This past couple years found me wanting to publish my own books. My dear friend Christine Reyes is the only reason I am able to do so. She has my back when the technical issues overwhelm. She has my back when I’ve once again thrown all the art in the trash can, lamenting this book will never happen. And each time it was Christine who said pull that stuff out of the trash and let’s make this happen! And we have. Eight times so far. The Tangle Starts, Artangleology Series! All eight of those books have gone straight to the number one spot on the Hot New Release List and have done very well. Life In Tangles was the #1 Best Seller in Canada and the United States on the day it was released!!! You can see them in the Publications section at the top of this page.

I have every art supply known to woman. Or man. Or at least it seems that way. None of them are safe from play! Hahahaha! I am an Artist Ambassador for Zebra Pen. They provide me with product for reviews, for my personal use and for giveaways. And I give a lot of it away in my Facebook group Tangle All Around. 

I am also an Artist Ambassador for Leda Art Supply which specializes in sketchbooks and pencils. They provide me with product for personal use, reviews and giveaways.

And I review product for Hahnemühle Fine Art. They are a wonderful German paper company that literally has a specialty paper for every type of art you can think of. They have been so wonderful to let me try anything I want and to provide me with lots of giveaway items for Tangle All Around. And here on the blog. 

That’s pretty much me in a nutshell. I love reading your comments and hope you will comment aplenty! Have a color product or technique you want to know more about? Just ask. I will try to make it happen. This is a journey. A joint journey. Between you and me. Let’s make it happen.

Dream It and Do It!

  If you can dream it - you can do it! Wise words to remember and live by. Quick post here just to share this daily journal page I made a few days ago AND to give you some news about the new book. First though - this journal page.  Like always I am working in my Harmony hot pressed journal from Hahnemühle . I love it. Sometimes I do one day on a page like this one. Sometimes I split the page in half and use it for two days. The little Hedwig-Gryffindor-wannabe is a drawing by Chris Ryniak that I colored to look like a Harry Potter character - Hedwig, Harry's owl. The background is bits and pieces of scraps from a number of projects. Some of the tangled blocks are from Octangling this past year and one is from a page I made for the Tangle It! Tangled Dragonflies All Around

What do steampunk and dragonflies have in common? Tangle All Around! Hahaha! My tangling Facebook group called Tangle All Around is providing the art today. In June and July we are working with patterns that go well with steampunk art. Don't like steampunk? That's alright, too. These patterns will work in your regular tangle routine as well.  I provided a dragonfly template to the group and asked them to tangle it using any of the steampunk patterns they wanted to and I welcomed them to use any other tangles they needed. This is the dragonfly I made using some of the patterns from week one. This is the template I gave the group. Octangling, 2020 Has Begun

  That post title is a way hopeful statement. Hahahahahaha! I haven't even started my first day tile yet and the day is over half way done. I have too many things I am trying to do all at once. But. Octangling for this year has begun in my Facebook group Tangle All Around . And I am already seeing some lovely pieces of art! You may be asking . . . what is Octangling. I am glad you asked. There is a young man who started an event years ago he dubbed Inktober. Every October he encourages people like you and me to draw something every day during the month. Nothing fancy, nothing we can't all do. And he gives a prompt for each day to give you an idea of what to draw. Our FB group has participated the past 3 years using a list of tangles I give them. This year I hesitate to use his name for the project because he is suing a lot of people and companies for selling pieces of art they made during his monthlong project. So.
