Index Card Journal

Image
Today I want to share a project I made as part of the Art Party Weekend. Except I just made mine a couple days ago. This particular project was taught by Marjie Kemper . She teaches a lot of mixed media and collage type classes online. For this project she used a series of eye stamps she had on hand. I had a bunch of these Lavinia Stamps that I had never used before and thought they would be perfect for my little journal.  We started with five 4" x 6" pieces of mixed media type paper. I used Bristol Illustration paper from Hahnemühle . The bottom three cards were not tabbed to start with. I cut those spaces away from the 4x6 card and created my own tabs. All pieces were coated with gesso, then painted with acrylic colors. On both sides.  I folded one of the extra pieces in half. (I did not use the second extra.) Then all pieces were scored on the bottom, 1/4" up. To do this easily, I used my Scor Pal . I have had this sucker for probably 7 - 8 years and have never used

Yesterday's Stamped Tags

Yesterday I showed you a few stamps I made using sheets of art foam. We used them to stamp on three tags and today I want to show you what I did with those tags. Super simple project using bits and pieces of scraps you have on hand.  Here are the tags and journal page I made in yesterday's post , as well as the three stamps I made.  I wanted to do something more with the tags. I had a swap that required one handmade tag, I figured this would be a good way to make that happen. You know I like bright colors, so I reached first for a bottle of yellow acrylic. Walmart has small bottles just like this on their craft aisle. Inexpensive is the important part to remember. The tags themselves I got from Joggles back when Barb ran a crazy sale of $10.00 for 100 tags. Nice, heavy, sturdy, and this size is 3" x 6". I bought two different sizes while Barb was being crazy.  I squeezed out a drop of color straight onto each tag, then used a brayer to roll the color up and down. I coul

Make Your Own Foam Stamps

Image
Last weekend I had the opportunity to take a class taught by Sarah Matthews. On YouTube she goes by Sarahbeme. Actually, the class was a three minute time lapse video showing how to make your own stamps using foam sheets. I finally had time to make a couple and I am just getting started!  I began with a couple 9" x 12" sheets of foam. Easy to find in the kid's crafting section at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Walmart probably carries these. In this photo, the black sheets are thicker, heavier. They are used for the base of the stamp. The white sheets are what you cut up to actually create the stamp. And the tags were for me to play with. And I needed to make a tag for a swap so the timing was perfect.  You know how I am when I get excited about a project. I forget to take photos. Basically I knew I wanted to start with a flower, so I used a template and traced a circle on the white and on the black sheets of foam. Then I cut them out into a square so it would be easier to
