Introducing Penguilephant

Image
Isn't he adorable! Sandra Strait just released a step out to a new character in her Alebrije series. A combination of an elephant and a penguin she is calling this critter Penguilephant. This past week I put a challenge to my Facebook group Tangle All Around to tangle up a bunch of penguilephants and I want to show you what they did. So much fun this little guy that Sandra made! Some Tangle Time

Image
Short post today but I did want to share the tangle pieces I've worked on lately. I am still chugging along with The 100 Day Project. Will I be sad when it's done? No, not at all. Hahahahaha! I am happy with the way I've kept up with the project this year, but it is hard to squeeze the time in each day. Some days I have more time, some days I have absolutely no time. I am loving working in this book from Hahnemühle , though! It is their Harmony hot pressed watercolor book. That means the pages are smooth surfaced and they can handle wet media. Hahahaha! There is my paper expertise in a nutshell and I shared it with you. This page shows day 86 and 87. The background was created with a new stencil from Stencil Girl and a couple ink pads and a blending tool. Fun and super simple. The tangles are my own designs: Shiretown (named after the area we live in here in Maine) and Satin & Silk. Both are easy and versatile.  I love this page! So busy and bright and bold and hap

Help Me Out, Please

Image
I need a little help, please. My email service is being discontinued in a couple months and I am trying out a new one with fingers crossed that it works like it should. You can help me out by responding to this post. So let's do a little survey-ish game and you let me know what you prefer to learn more about. Which of these categories interests you the most? The floral watercolor arts I have been learning and sharing.  Tangled art works. Or the exploratory Mixed Media art I do, which might include gelli prints, alcohol inks, watercolor markers, art on a shoestring projects, really the sky is the limit for this one! Hahahaha! Which do you most prefer to read about and learn: * florals/watercolors * tangles * mixed media.  Thank you for your help.

A Green Rainbow

Image
How is that for a title? Hahahaha! When I set out to paint this flower I knew I wanted to use a lot of different colors. That was pretty much all the plan I had in mind.  Last week Mark was in the Everglades enjoying his annual fish with the buddies trip and while he was gone I painted. A lot. For this one I broke out a block of The Collection hot pressed watercolor paper from Hahnemühle . Its smooth surface was perfect for these gentle side to side washes of green and yellow. I pre-wet the page first, then used a #8 flat Black Tulip brush from ZenART Supplies and just relaxed. This was the first time I painted on the Collection hot pressed and I really liked the feel of it.  My entire plan with this page was to use several colors. For painting I used a #8 round Black Tulip brush from ZenART Supplies . I just could not get that yellow to show so I added a layer of gesso over those petals, then added some yellow acrylic to get the yellow petals to work. I really like using the double

Days 72 - 85 of The 100 Day Project

Image
Days 72 and 73 of The 100 Day Project . I swear I keep wanting to call it The 100 Day Journey, because it really is a journey. And I can not believe I am still enjoying it. Hahahahahaha! The base of this page began with me rolling on several layers of Shimmer Shimmer paint. Not loving the color, thankfully I get to cover up a lot of it due to the way I work. Hahahahaha! Working in my Harmony Hot Pressed Watercolor book from Hahnemühle - love this book for this project! There is also a bit of mono print made with the Gelli Arts gel printing plates. The tiles were started by my friend Jules Mack and completed by myself.  One of my more favorite pages. Days 74 and 75. Watercolored background and there are a couple gel print strips as well. The manatee is a Chris Ryniak image that I colored. The mermaid is a Pinterest digital image that I colored. Fun page to put together! I started this page for days 76 and 77 with my Jane Davenport Ladybug Dotters . Nothing fancy, just lots of dots

Building A Daily Journal Page

Image
Daily journaling. Not something I am inclined to do naturally. I have tried in the past and made it a week or so, then gave up and quit. But . . . daily journaling this way is something I can do. In fact I have done it for 83 days in a row now. I had a request for a class on making these pages, until I can figure that out let me show you what I did to build this page.  I am working in a Harmony Hot Pressed Watercolor book from Hahnemühle . The spiral version. I love the paper in this book. I started my page by layering on some watercolors. Nothing fancy because I knew a lot of it was going to be covered up before I was done. This was left to dry on its own which is why I have those sections with fanning and light feathered edges.  While that was drying I started looking for elements to use with the page. Here is one of my drawers I keep gel prints and other color filled pages to use for projects such as this.  This is the page I went with. It is a gelli print I made for the book More
