Visit My Etsy Shop for World Watercolor Month

Image
World Watercolor Month begins in just two short days. Eek! It is almost here! And to get ready I have been working in my Etsy store, changing out all the old and listing all the new! During the month of July I will be donating 10% of all sales in my Etsy shop to International Child Art Foundation. And you can be a part -  visit my shop by clicking here .  WWM is a month long charitable event to raise arts education awareness and to raise support for this year's charity International Child Art Foundation . Each day during the month of July you are encouraged to watercolor along with thousands of others globally. To get you inspired, Angela Fehr has put together a list of prompts for each day. To participate financially, visit my shop or the shops of the other Artist Ambassadors and make a purchase.  Visit the Souvenir Shop for WWM and purchase a limited edition art bag created by the Artist Ambassadors like myself. What an honor to have my artwork on one of these once in a lifeti

Tangle Up a Rainbow Floater

Image
You have seen a few floaters lately, don't you think it is time to tangle up one of them?  Not long ago, Tracy Weinzapfel did a live demo in T angle All Around . This is the drawing I did in response to her session. Today I would like to walk you through how I made this rainbow floater.  I began by taping the edges of the page. This gives a crisp, clean finish to your painting when you are done. I watercolored the background before I drew the floater which started with a small grouping of tipple . Concentrating on edge to edge coverage, I drew my loops in various sizes and carried them over onto the tape. Next, I painted the petals and dried them completely before adding that second looping line to each one. Then I was ready to add the tangling.  I started with printemps - no surprise there, hahahaha! Then some rock n' roll diva dance. I realized those spaces at the bottom would make a great place for some leaves, so I added those, painted them and gave them some detail line

Daily Journaling With Hahnemühle

Image
My daily journaling has fallen behind as other life's issues push in. But I'm trying! Hahahaha! Trying and I would like to show you what I've accomplished this past week.  ICAD is a fun idea. Using an index card each day to create some art. In Tangle All Around I am giving them a pattern to go with the daily ICAD prompt. The wedding got me behind, but I am playing catch up as I have time.  The blog has been a major issue. Most of you will receive this post in an email. That service is being discontinued as of July, so Christine and I have been looking for another service. The ones I've used in the past - MailChimp and Mail Poet - will not work with Blogger. We set up an account with Constant Contact and we are trying to send the posts out in emails through them. So far it hasn't worked. If you should get an email with this post and it says it has been sent by Constant Contact, please comment on this post and let me know. Please. Ok, this page contains Days 13 and

ATV Riding in Maine

Image
Maine is beautiful. We live in an isolated area, lots of nature all around us. And a small town not far away. Remember all the snow we had not long ago? When the snow leaves, this is what is left. And we like to enjoy it riding our ATV. Let me show you.  As we were leaving the house we noticed Twitchy sitting on the cross beams. Eating his banana chip. Twitchy is our second red squirrel. He is a friend that Rocket brought over and he shows up just about every day. I can tell which one he is because he shakes. All over. All the time.  He isn't afraid of us like the newer ones. And Twitchy poses for photos just swell!  Dale is our little chipmunk. We have just the one that comes by - usually late in the day - and stuffs his little cheeks till they look like they may burst. He runs away and empties them out, then comes back for a second round of the Hendon Buffet.  This is the actual road we live on. Down a little ways, our end is paved. Our ride on Sunday took us down this road. Ar

Floating into World Watercolor Month

Image
Yesterday I mentioned that World Watercolor Month is coming!  It absolutely is coming and each day during July I hope to paint something fun like this! And push myself to learn some new techniques. Charlie O'Shields has given us a list of prompts for the month so I can start thinking about how I want to approach it.  Like any other 'art' it begins with gathering the correct supplies. I started with a sheet of Strathmore Watercolor paper and added painters tape along the edges. To that add some water, paints, a good brush and an iPad for watching Netflix while you work.  This is what I drew to get started. No paint yet, just a waterproof permanent pen. I use a Sharpie. Don't worry about those wobbly lines, they get worked out in the end.  Then I did a crazy thing. I painted the entire page in yellow and pink. Plenty of water was used to allow the colors to bleed into each other and I let it dry naturally. Mostly. Until I got impatient at the end and finished with a hea

There are a total of 14 artist bags available.  Charlie O'Shields has already released the prompts for July. If you are a member of Tangle All Around - we will be incorporating these watercolor prompts into our
