Building a Daily Journal Page

This was a fun page to put together! Having never been successful with daily journaling I was a little skeptical that this year would be any different. But - I think I have found my niche in the daily journaling world. Hahahahaha! Let me walk you through putting this page together - perhaps this is something you could do as well.

I always start by selecting my elements. I am combining this journaling with The 100 Day Project that we are doing in Tangle All Around. Two birds with one art stone. Piece of cake, right? Hahahaha!  Most pages start with a gelli print, for this particular one I went with some scrapbook papers that worked well with the artwork. And my tile cut from Bristol paper from Hahnemühle. I pre-colored it with Ken Oliver's watercolor inks. I chose this particular tile because I thought the colors went well with the dragon.

I am working in an 8" square spiral book from Rhodia. Yes, it has graph lines on the pages. Normally I wouldn't make art on pages like this, but for the scrapbooking approach to journaling the graph lines are perfect. I started by laying a strip of scrapbook paper right down the center. Picked this particular one because the colors go with the dragon. Hahahaha! Dragon? Yes, let me show you.

I am keeping these pages relatively simple. Trying to. The next step was element placement. Figuring out how to get my three pieces onto the page, make them look nice, and leave a little room here and there to write. Let's talk dragons while we are here. I did not draw this dragon. A friend in Tangle All Around - Velma Ensey - drew this dragon and gave me permission to print him out and color him. Yay!!!! I love dragons!!!

I ran Sir Dragon through the sticker machine, turning him into a . . . . sticker and plopped him into place. That scripture art was too large for my page but I thought the words were perfect, so I cut it down and inked the edges. I totally meant to ink the edges of my tangled tile, oh well. The tangle is called Biscus. Not a favorite, but it's done. And instead of dots all around I went with some thin washi tape. I love it. And there is plenty of room to write something. Not thoughty something but simple something. Because words.

And writing all done. That is more than I have written on any other page since I started the first of January. Hahahahaha! It really is easy to pull these pages together and they don't take long once the tile is tangled. Do you think this might be something you could do?

  1. Love the way that washi tape matches the colours of the page perfectly. Your Printemps look perfect with Biscus as they are. Lovely to see the actual process you use. I can see you're enjoying this style of daily journalling.
