Hahnemühle and ZenART Supplies - Great Combination!

Recently I have become one of ZenART Supplies' Luminaries. I get the opportunity to use their products and tell you all about them. Hahnemühle has been a great friend to me and allow me to use their products and tell you about those, too. And since ZenART does brushes and paint and Hahnemühle does all things paper - they make up one great winning combination!

Recently I was working with my Gelli Arts printing plates making prints, having fun. My brayer usually has paint left on it that I don't want to waste, so I brought out a sheet of Hahnemühle's The Collection paper and rolled that leftover paint right on. Lately I have been painting on top of gell prints and I knew these light, pretty colors would be perfect.

The Collection pages are roughly 9.5" x 12.5" which means I can easily make two paintings on each paper. That is one inch painters tape you see blocking off my pages. One thing I try to remember - but don't always - is to make sure the tape is down good and solid on the paper so paint doesn't find a foothold underneath it.

I used a black ultra fine Sharpie to draw my florals. That lower ring of dark color - I knew I wanted to stamp a sentiment in that round section and I wanted the dark ring to highlight it. Yes, it looks strange at this stage but it gets better, honest.

I have two sets of paintbrushes from ZenART Supplies. I had not used this set a lot, so thought I'd give them a try on this page. I used two brushes from their Fine Line Detail Set - #1 and #2 round. I like to work with larger brushes usually but really wanted to try these out and they worked great.

I love how the gelli print roll off shows right through the painting. For color I used Prima's Classic watercolor set.

The background is painted a light green with hints of yellow and teal. I left the petals unpainted so those gel print colors would shine through. And after the paint was completely dry, I went back over all the black lines and doubled them up - that covers any boo-boos! Added some white highlights here and there and stamped my sentiment. All done √ Not as bright and colorful as I usually like things but it is good to swap things up once in awhile. Just to show I can. Hahahaha! And those detail brushes worked great!

I used a load of orange and red on this page and they mostly covered up those acrylic gel print roll offs. When I hold the piece of art and tilt it towards the light I can still see the acrylic underneath. It gives some really great texture to my paintings. I added some black ink around the edges to frame the artwork, some white highlights and I went back over all my lines.

Hahnemühle's Collection and ZenART Supplies' fine line detail brushes worked great together! And I love this piece of art even though it has red in it. Hahahaha!

  1. These are both stunning - this technique really suits your style. Your white highlights are such a lovely contrast to the bold black lines.
