Daily Journaling?

Daily journaling is definitely the way to go as long as one doesn't feel pressured to journal every day. Hahahaha! I guess I should call it semi-daily journaling. Or every-other-day-daily journaling. The 100 Day Project kept me on track. It is hard to beat a daily project. I am still working in my Harmony hot pressed watercolor journal from Hahnemühle. The size is perfect for handling two days on one page. Here I was adding the postcards I made in Tracy's 5-Day Postcard Challenge. The backgrounds are gelli prints that I added watercolor over.

It was a five day class. Here are my days three and four. I really like the green flower and find myself painting these most often. It is starting to be my go-to Tracy flower. Again, both of these postcards were gelli printed first, then painted. The postcards themselves are Nostalgie Postcards from Hahnemühle.

And here is my day five card at the top. Red is so not my color but I do love how this looks. Actually, I have been finding myself using red from time to time since this. But don't tell anyone.

The other postcard is one of Hahnemühle's cold pressed watercolor postcards. Background is shimmer shimmer paint. The journal circle is gelli printed - so is the red postcard.

I mentioned having a daily project being helpful with daily journaling. For the months of June and July, Tangle All Around is participating with Daisy Yellow's ICAD program. ICAD means Index Card a Day. Basically you use a 4" x 6" index card each day and make some art on it. Daisy Yellow gives a prompt for each day and I am giving my group a tangle pattern for each day. They can combine the two, or do something else entirely. Whatever works for them. My June 1st index card is the bottom right. I am hopeful of painting a Tracy flower on each card these 61 days.

And here is June 2nd and 3rd. The top card - the prompt was snapdragon (so of course I had to include a dragon) and the tangle was Flame Flower. All the tangles we use these 61 days are going to be from my last book Life in Tangles. I am so proud of that book! On the day it was released it was the #1 Best Seller in both the United States and Canada. The second card - the prompt was lyrics, the tangle I chose is Harmony. The lyrics I added are from Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard's song Undivided.

Look around and love somebody, we've been hateful long enough. Let the good Lord reunite us 'til this country that we love's undivided.

That brings you up to date on my daily journaling. I also worked on this large piece of art. Painted on a new paper from Hahnemühle called Agave. It is part of their natural line. I will be reviewing it very soon. So far I love painting on the paper. This page started out with Dylusions Ink Sprays. I haven't used them in so long. I had no idea how watercoloring would go on top of the Dylusions since they are water activated. I think it went really well. Stay tuned for more daily journaling and painting. Cause you know I will keep you posted.

  1. These pages are fabulous, Alice! I paint or draw almost every day, but somehow it's different when you're working in the same book each day.

    1. It is an interesting journey for me and I feel like I am learning so much

  2. I can see that flowers are definitely your ‘thing’ whether Tracy’s or tangles. That last piece is quite a project. I’ve found watching the ICAD posts fascinating - especially those combining prompts with the tangles & using collages elements for the prompt with the drawn tangles.

    1. I am enjoying the flowers - I always had trouble thinking of them as 'tangles' because they are representative but rick and Maria have many patterns that are representative and they call them tangles. so I guess I can, too

    2. I'd not quite thought of that but I think you very definitely can - Squid springs to mind.
