The Gift of Tangles

December means The Gift of Tangles. This is the second year we have done this in my Facebook group Tangle All Around. Each day of the month I give them a Christmas related tangle and they make some kind of art with it. I am doing the project in my daily journal. What you see above is my December 1st page. If you have followed my work for very long you already know I love bright beautiful color and dot pens. Most of my pages are focused around those things. How can you get involved with The Gift of Tangles? Easy answer. Join my group Tangle All Around by clicking here. OR you can subscribe and follow this blog. I will post all the tangles right here. Today I am showing you weeks one and two.

Florious was the tangle for the first day of the month. It is the tangle I used in the pink section of the tile on the above page.

Delys was day two. Here is the page I made for December second.

This wasn't one of my favorite tangles so I just made a border with it along the top in the orange section of the tile. I am working in a journal I made using Bristol Illustration paper from Hahnemühle

December 3rd, embezzled from Jane Nichols. What a beautiful tangle. Actually I included it in my book Life in Tangles.

I didn't make my gemstone as cool as Jane made hers. Hahaha! And I surrounded it with printemps and some of my own tangles: corn rows, dayz eaze, Rubin, raid, chunky monkey and trellis.

Day four, December 4th, included two different ways to draw a Christmas tree. Many people used this as a starting point and filled their trees with tangles.

I went with a totally different way to draw a tree. I used my tangle called Weave and split the tree down the middle. You will notice I like to include a character on each page. This hippie Christmas tree loving girl was drawn by Krista Leigh Smith. I just added the coloring with Copic markers. The girl is a digital stamp named Hippie Christmas.

December 5th, the pattern is Christmas Baubles. They can be filled with tangles of your choosing.

Lots of fun! The tree is a digital stamp from Chris Ryniak that I added color to.

The December 6th tangle is from Hennie Brouwer. I love her work and her big brain for tangles. And they are so hard for me to do BUT I did manage a small bit of fan for myself.

Hahaha! A little bit of fan! Doesn't look like hers but I did it. That background is actual Christmas wrapping paper.

Day 7 of December. Flowerleaf multi. This is a beautiful tangle. It looks complicated but it really isn't. Just follow the steps Sylvia outlined for you here. Those green grid lines are meant to be drawn in pencil.

And this is as far as I've gotten. You know . . . since today is December 7th. Both of these characters came from Krista Leigh Smith. I love her work and have followed her for years and years. You can find her on Instagram by clicking here

December 8, 2023. And that's all the art for me. I will run the next week's tangles here for you so you can work along with us if you want. They will be in order from December 9th through the 15th.

We are also working with a couple Christmas templates. You can print these out and fill them with tangles. Let me show you my Mickey.

I used some of the first week's tangles and some others that I thought would work well with Mickey's design.

This week's template is Minnie. So much fun to fill these coloring blanks up with tangles.

And that is it for the first two weeks of December. I hope you will join us and invite your friends that might like to tangle with us. Tangle All Around is open by clicking here. 3. I like the way that the bear's green garland echoes your left hand merry & bright panel in that first journal page & how the red in both the tile (Printemps) plus the left part of the main panel is echoed in the bear's baubles. In the journal page with the wrapping paper background you've again picked out the red of the reindeer's collar with the Santa costume & the red in the tile. Those are my two favourite pages & if I have to choose one, it's the wrapping paper one! It's a lovely idea to use your journalling page designs (definitely your own signature style in those) with the tangled tiles showcasing the Gift of Tangles challenge patterns. Hope you'll be able to have some time with family over the Christmas Season too. - Evy
