Class Time With Tracy Weinzapfel

I have loved the work of Tracy Weinzapfel for quite awhile now. I couldn't tell you the exact number of years -  perhaps five. I remember Tracy when she built that wall of paint you see behind her when she was sponsored by Decoart. I have envied and coveted that wall. Hahaha! And I have followed Tracy's journey. Your Artful Journey is where Tracy shares and teaches these days. It is a membership group you can join and get first hand info on all her classes. 

This week I am taking an online class Tracy is teaching called the 5-Day Postcard Challenge. She is hosting the class in a group she set up on FB. After the live class is completed the video goes up in the group. So we can do the class live or by video replay. Yesterday I watched the class by video. Today's class I watched live. Whatever works with your schedule. Let me show you what I did for Day One. And it is not too late to sign up for the class yourself. Here is a link. 

Lately I've been working with my gel printing plate from Gelli Arts and making a lot of backgrounds. This particular one is on a Nostalgie postcard from Hahnemühle. I figured since I had these postcards I would use them for the class and put them through their paces. The gelli print background you see here was made with acrylic paint. It does not reactivate when wet media is used over it and that is important because we would be watercoloring in the class. 


Tracy makes her living teaching art, so I won't be going into the details of what we did here. You need to sign up for her class to get those. And oh yeah, the class is just $10.00, so it is highly affordable. Yay!!! I like how the gel print shows through the drawing, I was hoping it still looked good once we added color. And I took these photos at night.





Yes! I can still see the gel print through the watercolor. I am so happy with this! But we weren't finished yet. 





















And here is my completed postcard from Day One. I love it! I am not used to going that dark with the blacks but it was a challenge that I accepted. Hahahaha!     I can see that this is a perfect way of using your gelli prints. It's really effective with the heavy black outlining - I vaguely remember seeing something about redefining outlines when tangling & it's something I want to explore, especially now that that the Project Packs are using more than just black Microns. This is so effective with the bright colours.

  Each year during the months of June and July, Tammy Garcia (Daisy Yellow) sponsors an event she named ICAD. Stands for index card a day . The thought is each day for 61 days you create some art on an index card. Any kind of art. Any size index card. Any medium. In Facebook group Tangle All Around I encourage our members to give ICAD a try. I am working with 4" x6" index cards. If you don't have any you can cut your own from the paper you like to work with. Tangled Dragonflies All Around

What do steampunk and dragonflies have in common? Tangle All Around! Hahaha! My tangling Facebook group called Tangle All Around is providing the art today. In June and July we are working with patterns that go well with steampunk art. Don't like steampunk? That's alright, too. These patterns will work in your regular tangle routine as well.  I provided a dragonfly template to the group and asked them to tangle it using any of the steampunk patterns they wanted to and I welcomed them to use any other tangles they needed. This is the dragonfly I made using some of the patterns from week one. This is the template I gave the group. ICAD, Days 11 - 30

  ICAD - or Index Card a Day - is over now. Every year it runs during the months of June and July and we participate in Tangle All Around .  Art on an index card. Any kind of art but in TAA I specifically ask them to use a tangle. And each day I give them a tangle to use.  Since I did chemo I just don't have the urge to make art. Of any kind. I have to make myself sit down and create. I found that working on this index card size of 4" x 6" worked for me. And I did great during June. I honestly have no idea what happened in July. But I do want to get back to making these cards AND I can use them on my daily journal pages. You know - those pages I do about once a month. The story of my life.
