Flower Power Day 2 With Tracy

Day two of Tracy's Flower Power May Mixed Media Challenge is in the books. Literally. Just a few days remain and there is still plenty of time for you to join us. Just $10 and thirty days access to the class videos. So far I have been watching the videos. And that works great for me.

Tracy makes a living teaching art, and as such I can not show you the steps or teach the process here. You need to sign up for the class to get all that. And it is waaaaayyyy worth it! I can tell you this is what I started with. And I love it!

And this is where our project ended up. I felt like I had too much open space at the top, so . . .

. . . I went back and added a bit more texture and a statement. Not my favorite but I learned some new things. And I have something different to aim for next time. But that one petal in the middle bugged me. The long one.

But just look at that texture!!! Still, I did not love my cone flower at this point. The petal in the middle is too long for the flower. It doesn't 'fit' with the other petals and it bugged me. A lot.

So I pulled my Decou-page back out, along with my music, and cut out two new petals. Long ones like the middle one - and adhered them on the left side. Now the petals look more proportioned.

And I was happier but still not there. So I brought out my Sharpie ultra fine and added some lines to those petals. I like it much better. And I have a plan for the petals if I ever do this one again. I will stack up my paper and cut all the petals out at the same time. That way they will be the same size. I loved making the background and will do this again for sure! Interested in joining us in Flower Power May? Classes run all week, then the video replays are accessible for thirty days. Just click here to sign up. Bring your $10 - that is all it takes - and I will see you inside.

I wanted to give a point of interest. It is at least of interest to me. The page of music I cut up to make the petals came from a Broadman Hymnal that my grandmother gave me years and years ago when I was a kid. I used it to play piano in church when I was way young. It makes me happy to be able to use some of the pages this way. Kind of like Grandma having her hand in my art work and I like that! A lot!

  1. Yes I can understand your pleasure with Grandma having a hand in your artwork - lovely way to rekindle memories too. Interesting to see another way of doing big bold flowers & one with a lot of potential for your style of artwork.
