Special Treat - Guest Instructor Tracy Weinzapfel
Super excited to announce California multi-media artist Tracy Weinzapful will be teaching live in my Facebook group Tangle All Around Monday night - that is tomorrow - and you are invited! Tracy will be demoing her painting technique and we are invited to paint along. Please join us. Even if you do not paint already, Tracy's teaching ability makes it easy to learn. Even though I had followed Tracy's journey since her kids were little (they are all in college now,) I finally tried my hand at one of her classes in January. Let me show you actual pieces of art I painted during Tracy's sessions.
I had never painted a picture before this class. I tangle and do line art, and I can make color, but I had not painted my own picture. In January, Tracy taught a five day postcard class. This is one of the five postcards I painted during that class using a Nostalgie postcard from Hahnemühle as my base. And I guarantee you can do this too!
February found Tracy being all about hearts. In her paid subscription group Your Artful Journey, we painted this heart page which I immediately added tangles to. And yes, I was hooked just that fast. After the postcard class I jumped at the opportunity to be part of her subscription group. Her 'tribe'. She only opens membership a couple times a year and those doors are open right now.
Tracy even has me using red! Oh my! Hahahaha! I hate red but I do use it now in my paintings. And I figure out ways to incorporate tangles into most paintings. And throw my chop in there somewhere.
We build on our knowledge with each session. Becoming a member of her Tribe gave me access to all the lessons, going back to the very beginning. I am still working my way through those. Tracy gives us the how-to, the step-by-step that we tanglers so appreciate, and she allows us the opportunity to put our own spin on it. Like these little blue violas - one of my tangles published in Tangle All Around the World.
I loved this lesson! And I want to do it again in crazy pinks and blues but just haven't found the time yet. But I will!
A lot of what we learn is watercolor. But Tracy is also an art journaler and we work with acrylic and gesso and texture paste and matte medium. Well, you get the idea. Anything is fair game. And if you don't already have the product on hand, Tracy talks work-arounds.
This has to be the first time ever I made a black background! It really makes your art work stand out!
This is my favorite of all the Tracy pieces I've painted. I just love the bright color - but you already know how I feel about bright color - it just makes me happy! This art style is freeing, it's relaxing just like tangling, and it is so much fun! There is no wrong, no mistake, no bad painting. Just like in tangling! The two art styles really go so well together.
And one last piece of art - done as part of a mixed media challenge Tracy dubbed Flower Power. A combination of gesso, acrylic and ink. So much fun and hey, look! Red! Hahahaha!
Please join us for this FREE session with Tracy Weinzapfel. Monday, May 24th, 2021, at 5:30 PM PST, 7:30 PM CST or 8:30 PM EST. You must be a member of my Facebook group Tangle All Around. I know most of you who read these posts are already members so come on and join in. Tracy and I will be starting the session off together - I am going to be on screen, too, for a few minutes, hahahaha! - and then Tracy will demo a painting. I am so excited for you to be able to get involved with us! Hope to see you there!

So much bright joy!!! I love ALL your paintings, Alice. 😊 And I would love to join in tomorrow evening, but I'll doing a Zoom presentation on Zentangle to our local Arboretum Society from 5 to 6pm PST. Will the lesson remain on your Facebook page for a while so I can watch it later?
ReplyDeleteit will, jan, Tracy will be recording and we will add it to the Guides section. enjoy your class :)
DeleteYou've done so many fabulous paintings using what you've learned from Tracy! I hope I can make it to this evening's session!
ReplyDeleteI hope so, too! And it will be recorded as well.
DeleteI'll catch up with this lesson at some point so really pleased it's recorded as well. I do hope it went ever so well. I've been watching as you've been working on Tracy projects & love the way you've incorporated your gelli printing with the tangling into the whole. That's what art is all about - learning techniques & adapting them to your own style.
ReplyDeletewe had a great time! and the video is in announcements and in our Guides section. I laughed and laughed - it was great fun and we all learned something new.
