ICAD Has Begun

ICAD has begun and it is the first year I have participated! ICAD stands for Index Card a Day. The thought is anyone can take a simple 4" x 6" (or smaller) index card and create some kind of art on it. Doesn't matter what you do, just make art. And do it each day during the months of June and July. Sounds kind of like The 100 Day Project to me except it's on index cards are there are just 61 days. Other than that exactly the same. Hahaha! Let's jump in!
















You have already seen the first three days of June. Here are days 4 and 5. The prompts were snow globe and verdigris. Yes, I did have to look that word up to see what it means. Sorry. Hahahahaha! The tangles I used are Avro and Pypyz. The little Florida gator is a drawing by Chris Ryniak. I love his critters! I colored it with Copics. Working in my Harmony hot pressed watercolor journal from Hahnemühle, this is a mix of gelli print roll off, watercolors, ink, stenciling ala Christine and gemstones. 















Days 6 and 7. Day 7 is my favorite so far. Of course, we aren't even halfway through yet. Hahahaha! Prompts were twist and canoe. Tangles are Alitos and Fish n Fish. Yeah, no canoe happened on this page. I did add in a floral sun, some cool word sentiments and alcohol ink pages. 
















And then we left for Kali's wedding. I missed a week's worth of cards but I will slowly catch up. I jumped in on days 14 and 15. More alcohol ink cards, more Chris Ryniak and watercolor. And I got a new little sewing machine because my other one died. Actually the bobbin casing broke and we couldn't figure out how to fix or replace it. The machine was old. This new one works just great! 

Next up? Organizing all the photos I took in Colorado. We had a great week and the wedding was beautiful and fun! Can't wait to share it with you!

    That seems such a sensibly relaxed way of keeping up with ICAD challenge. Recommencing on the day it’s supposed to be stops that sense of being behind/missing the mark catching up can then be done as and when.

      for sure. otherwise I would never catch up - I would get discouraged. now I can catch up if I want to :) but not feel behind

Sometimes I split the page in half and use it for two days. The little Hedwig-Gryffindor-wannabe is a drawing by Chris Ryniak that I colored to look like a Harry Potter character - Hedwig, Harry's owl. The background is bits and pieces of scraps from a number of projects. Some of the tangled blocks are from Octangling this past year and one is from a page I made for the Tangle It! Octangling, 2020 Has Begun

  That post title is a way hopeful statement. Hahahahahaha! I haven't even started my first day tile yet and the day is over half way done. I have too many things I am trying to do all at once. But. Octangling for this year has begun in my Facebook group Tangle All Around . And I am already seeing some lovely pieces of art! You may be asking . . . what is Octangling. I am glad you asked. There is a young man who started an event years ago he dubbed Inktober. Every October he encourages people like you and me to draw something every day during the month. Nothing fancy, nothing we can't all do. And he gives a prompt for each day to give you an idea of what to draw. Our FB group has participated the past 3 years using a list of tangles I give them. This year I hesitate to use his name for the project because he is suing a lot of people and companies for selling pieces of art they made during his monthlong project. So. Working With Avro from Yvonne Westover

Yesterday I had the opportunity to join a Zoom lesson taught by Canadian CZT Yvonne Westover. The subject of the session was Yvonne's fun and limitless tangle called Avro. Which also happens to be one of the 500+ tangles included in my latest book Life in Tangles .  Here is Avro as it shows in Life in Tangles, along with one of Yvonne's pieces of art showing Avro in the round. Based on the letter A, Avro offers many variations - or tangleations - and room for creativity. This was my first attempt at working the tangle. We took that basic A shape and added it in each quarter with the top of the letter pointing towards the center. Mine did not line up as well as Yvonne’s did but this was a good learning step for me.  Contrary to what some people think my tangling doesn’t always turn out the way I would like it to and here is the proof.
