You know I liked to daily journal before I got sick last year. I actually have books that are filled with art from sticking to that one thing each day. Since I finished chemo I just haven't felt like doing much art at all. Like none. But recently I have started working in these fun books again. Sometimes with brand new art, some times using pieces of art I made before being sick. The two smaller pieces are from Octangling, 2022. The block at the bottom with the baubles pieces is part of a coloring book page I drew for Tangle It! Coloring Book several years ago. The cute little Hogwart's Hedwig owl is a drawing of Chris Ryniak that I colored.  The background color is Ranger's Distress Inks rubbed on with blending brushes. The other color strips are random bits of this and that left over from other projects. The sticker sentiments in this and the photo above came from my Erin Condrin planner.   If you can dream it - you can do it! Wise words to remember and live by. Quick post here just to share this daily journal page I made a few days ago AND to give you some news about the new book. First though - this journal page.  Like always I am working in my Harmony hot pressed journal from Hahnemühle . I love it. Sometimes I do one day on a page like this one. Sometimes I split the page in half and use it for two days. The little Hedwig-Gryffindor-wannabe is a drawing by Chris Ryniak that I colored to look like a Harry Potter character - Hedwig, Harry's owl. The background is bits and pieces of scraps from a number of projects. Some of the tangled blocks are from Octangling this past year and one is from a page I made for the Tangle It!   It has been awhile since I posted. I am doing well and have tested cancer-free twice now. Still having problems with concentration and staying focused on whatever task is at hand. I plan on talking with the oncologist at my appointment next week to see if he can help me with that. In the meantime, I wanted to share some daily journal pages I was able to put together and a couple art journal spreads I am sharing with a friend. This page above used some bits and pieces and scraps from various projects I did in the past. The tag came from Beth Broadway and she also drew the pink haired girl and turned it into a sticker. The hand painted flowers down the middle came from Rachel Foster. I like to save art from my friends on my daily pages - that way I will always be able to find them and enjoy them.  This page is from back in November. Let's see if I remember how to do this. I am told that chemo brain is a real thing. What I know about chemo brain is I find it hard to get motivated and accomplish anything. Specifically art. Back a little over a month ago I was able to put these journal pages together in a day with some new product. Let me show you how I built these pages.  I began with a few simple supplies. Joggles is carrying a new line of products called 49 and Market . I bought a few things hoping they would get me in the mood to make art. I got a nice cover and some signatures to go inside. The beauty of signatures is you can remove the whole piece from the journal so you can work without all the bulk. When you are finished you just pop it back in. For my background I went with these colors of Amsterdam acrylic paints .  Beginning with the azo yellow lemon, I squeezed just a bit onto my page.  With no real plan I used the brayer to roll color onto my two page spread.   Should I shade? Should I not shade? Shading your tangle art is something many tanglers would rather not do. They don't know what to shade or how to do it and it is just easier to skip that step.  Since being so sick earlier this year I have really had a hard time getting interested in doing any kind of art. I used to make art all day long - now I rarely feel like it. But one day earlier this week I felt like tangling. For awhile. To draw this piece I traced two 3.5" square tiles onto my paper in pencil. Overlapping at those top middle corners. And I just used tangles I like. From left to right: SOCC, Beauchamp, Z'ghetti, Caracole and Printemps with a bit of Tipple thrown in. When it came time to shade I just wasn't feeling it and pushed the whole piece to one side, feeling a bit defeated. Once again I signed up for iHanna's semi-annual international postcard swap . And once again I used the wonderful  Nostalgie hot pressed postcards from Hahnemühle . The swap called for ten postcards completed in whatever art form we wished. Well, I sent them out in the mail this morning and I can't wait to show them to you! This card started with several layers of a gel printed background. The flower center was a piece of ephemera from Tamara Laporte. A hand drawn and painted flower, a stamp and a couple jewels finished it up in style.  Most of my postcards started with some level of gel printing for the base layer. I especially like the way this background looks and the way it shines through my painted flower. I used the same stencil that I used in the first postcard you saw and made a couple layers in different colors.   That title says it all. What a year! So thankful it is almost over and I can start anew in 2023! In fact - I made this page in my daily journal to celebrate. Hahahaha! Never mind that it's been almost a year since I 'daily journaled'. It's been that bad of a year.  I began by pulling together all the awesome things I wanted to include. I began with a piece of colorful painted paper from Niki Green - I love her work so much! The postcard is a Nostalgie postcard from Hahnemühle that I used to clean brushes on, then added some art. The larger tangled piece of art is from last year. My hands still shake and this kind of art doesn't come easy to me right now. Anyone who knows me well knows Tinkerbell is my favorite character. I liked the strip I cut off a piece of art and kept. I thought it might work well. And chocolates. I have to apologize for not getting the week three tangles to you earlier. Twinchietober is going great at Tangle All Around on Facebook. The October 15th tangle Bridges was designed by Randi Ziegler. A tangleation of Sharps which Randi Jameson introduced in the book Life in Tangles .  My husband had a full hip replacement surgery at the beginning of this week and I have been busy taking care of him, getting him on his feet and he is doing great! On October 16th we worked with Champ , designed by Antje Romers. It is a great fill pattern and it can be used as a fragment. Let me give you a few points in case you are new to Twinchietober. A twinchie is a 2" square of paper that we draw our designs on. And since we are doing this in October I came up with the name Twinchietober.  All the patterns - or tangles - we are using were designed by members of my FB group Tangle All Around .
